Headunit + vagcom

Post by polo_1.4_16v »

hi i'm new to this site so i want to start by saying hi all :D

I want to install an alpine headunit into my 6n2 but the vagcom i have says it cannot be used with aftermarket headunits, anyone know why this is?

i read somewhere(can't remember exactly where to) that garages also refuse to do diagnostics if an aftermarket headunit is fitted

I think the instructions say it's due to the voltage of the headunit? im not to sure though ill have to check

any replies would be grateful

thanks

Hi Mate

Firstly, thats a load of crap - you can use any headunit in the car. The only difference is you will no longer be able to run VAGCOM diagnostics on the headunit itself!

So ye, rip out that factory HU and get your own in there - I used to work for VW and we never had a problem whatsoever :)

Cheers

Ok thanks mate

Another question,
Would the alpine pdx 1.600 be ideal for running a type R?

Cheers

I guess your refering to the Type-R Subwoofer. Yes the PDX 1.600 would be ideal for the 10" & 12" Subs.

However you could get away with the MRP-M500 (which is a lot cheaper & would be a perfect match) as long as you get the SWR-1242D or SWR-1042D Sub so they run at 2 Ohms at the amp like this:
