Yeah or No???

Post by KennyPOLO_Gti »

Just had a quote from Backdraft for a new K03s Hybrid at £803

Also need to get TT Injectors, MAF, and FPR.

Then Custom Mapping to suit and fitting also!

Should be good for 270 bhp!

Probably looking at £1500 all in maybe a bit more. But i can then sell my K03s on thats currently on my car.

Would look to get it done when i am off in July, got my skirts to be sprayed and fitted come the 11th of this month.

So what you think???

Turbo off the 225 engines isnt a straight bolt on job, plus dont think a k04 would give you as much as a ko3s hybrid? I maybe wrong though.

Much prefer the idea of a bolt on, not so keen on the Gt28rs or going IHI, extra work would need done to the internals.

LSD isnt need to do this but changing it will help, as for clutch, i would think it would need changing, but why not just run it till it goes t**s up!? Heard some people still running std clutch with high torque levels so i would give it a try.

Going to have a wee think over the next couple of days and check my money for the next couple of months, dont think am going to Ibiza this yeart so theres 3K straight away!!!

ok cool!

so if you just put on a ko3s hybrid then.....you have to do no additional work to the internals?

and also...clutch is a probable yes but lsd not needed if not wanted....sounds a bit more tempting now

i was under the impression that both would need doing?

no internal work is required to run the garret gt28rs, whoever has told you otherwise is unaware, apr have been doing this for over ten years on this engine now

Looked at the Garrett routue but its just too much BHP for me, i use my car daily to get in and out of work and socialising, having something sitting around 330bhp isnt really pratical for me. Personally i dont think its safe for a car that weights just over 1T and only a 2wd. I would end up in hospital or worse!!! Having around 270/280 bhp is better option for me, cheaper, and keep the car more reliable for everyday use and still use the 312mm brakes. 8)

Internals will be fine at 270/280 bhp mate

Clutch would probably need done but give it a try on the standard. I would probably go for Sachs VR6 clutch/G60 Flywheel conversion.

you know my thoughts on this already ....

it IS the perfect way forward...

it will make a quick enough machine that is relaibel and good for everyday use...

the k03s hybrid is very similar to the k04 on the TT/S3/LCR except it is bolt on... no downpipe work required...

good for the same power.. probably better...

BUT BUT BUT

my deep down thoughts on this ...

1. a bolt on GT28RS isnt much more in cost
2. likely you need a better clutch anyway
3. you have to buy injectors and maf which ever route
4. you need more mapping for either route

But the GT28RS you can run low boost and make more power .. and later.. in a few months....or years you can go for broke .. and push 350+

Kenny... it is a difficult call... but I guess you think you will be happy with the hybrid then get bored an go GT28RS .... so I think.. miss out the middle bit.. do it properly.... proper BT...

Side note .. I remap plenty of TT225, S3 and LCR but they never blow me away... my ex beloved k04-001 Polo just as fast ;-)

I Would just love to take my car some and say here you go, fit a Gt28RS with everything need to go along with it but looking on the likes of Awsome GTI its nearly 4K just for the full kit!!! :o :( :( I personally cant justify that plus APR stage three looks to still be generic, where i would prefer a custom to suit me, as in down tuned!!! 340bhp and 332lb/ft is just asking for problem IMO. Need a cheaper option folks!! :D Even if i could pay it up somehow!

i agree a hybrid is the way forward for a reliable everyday fast car and within most peoples budjet i will be going down this route with rs4 internals !!!
