I had the same thing years ago...
I'm pretty sure it's dust that's stuck on the grease on your stalks. The electrical arking when you use the stalks sets it alight.
Mine smoked a bit and I sh1t bricks and jumped out the car... It stopped really quickly, so I drove it to the dealers and that's what they said it was.

Definately one of the stalks. I got my replacement stalk fitted a few weeks back - washers work fine now and no more smoke!

Re: Smoke from behind the steering wheel
thanks for the reply, is it alright to keep driving the car till i can get it replaced?
Re: Smoke from behind the steering wheel
Mine used to do it too. Only right after starting the car, there was a tiny trace of smoke coming from behind the steering wheel. Soon after, I had to replace the wiper lever as the contacts inside melted and I couldn't turn the wipers off...
The mechanic said it's a common issue with polos(vag's). No smoke since then...

Re: Smoke from behind the steering wheel
Should be fine, just avoid using the stalk if at all possible (obviously not possible if an indicator)coogee wrote:thanks for the reply, is it alright to keep driving the car till i can get it replaced?
