Hey guys, the next stage on my moose mobile project is lowering it. I was set on getting some coilovers but my insurers arn't so cool on it so going to get some subtle lowering springs. I'm looking for 50 to 60 mm drop. I have a 1999 1.4 16v.
after looking on ebay these Jamex's seem popular but what do u think? any other better options u could recomend?

Lowering springs with a drop over 30-40mm will wreck your shocks extemely quickly & the ride would be awful. If you want to go this route then get matched shocks included in the pack, something like these! Got 60mm drop & would look awesome!

The standard shocks etc aren't made to cope with the excessive force lowering springs will exhurt. You'd be better off getting a shocks and springs kit. I wouldn't get Pi kit though as I used to have a 40mm Pi setup which was pretty harsh. Furthermore, with only a drop of 40mm it looked like standard ride height compared to other cars!

I admit I went for almost a year without telling my old insurance company.
Declared everything now though.
I wouldn't advise it however, as it's against the law

Same here, I got stuck with financial issues etc and did run my old 8v with rims and spring/shocks undeclared. Even though the lowering wasn't noticeable I was still worried about my insurance being void if I had an accident.
Every aspect of my car is now declared. Mods aren't worth hiding unless you were in a seriously tricky situation forcing you to do so.

hmmm i'm not too keen on voiding my insurance, i would try and drive extra safe which i know would make me crash lol

^^ If you know you couldn't afford the premium of declaring the mods then wait for extra cash before you do so.
Remember, you may drive extra safe but it won't have any effect on the other drivers around you. My last polo without the mods declared got written off. It wasn't my fault but i was very lucky to use an accident specialist instead of my insurers. As I knew the owners I managed to rip off most of the mods at their lockup. I was very lucky the 3rd party solicitor who saw the car didn't notice the suspension (only 40mm drop) or I would've been screwed.
