3rd Gear crunch..

Hey, I've only just recently got my GTi and I read up about them having weak gearboxes.

I'm a little concerned that mine could be a potential problem.

When I'm driving and in 2nd gear take it up over 3000Rpm it will crunch into 3rd gear slightly no matter how far down the clutch is. It does do it coming down from 4th gear but can be a little stiff.

Can anyone shed some light on this problem?

yeh i have a similar problem if you try and boot second abit 3rd cannot be found at all which is rather annoyin , looks like we both need gearboxes, has your gear selector very sloppy now?

The gear linkage and selection is still quite tight, there's a small bit of play but it was like that when I bought it.

It doesnt crunch into any other gear except reverse.. but my old mk3 GT did that.

Other than that its pretty sweet, a little bit of a whine from 30mph up to about 50mph but my mk3 did that too...?

Whenw as the last time the clutch was chagned? As it's more likely to be that. Mine crunched just like yours, had the clutch replaced and it was fine.

no idea... how much would it cost to get the clutch changed?? I'm not even going to attempt doing it myself on this car

just shy of 100 for a SACHs clucth kit from GSF. then probably another 100 or so for labour from your local.
