Hi everyone,
Time has come to replace my front & rear discs and pads. The rears are completely finished but the front still have a little life left in them. I might as well purchase them all together to save myself time.
Do people normally tend to replace them with the standard OEM parts or is it worth while checking out black diamond, EBC, Carbon Lorraine etc? My car is standard at the moment but I will be fitting induction kit, manifold, exhaust, engine-re-map in the coming weeks so it wont be standard for long.
I dont want to do the 280mm G60 upgrade at the moment, just looking for a straight swap.
Kam Racing offer some decent prices on black diamond discs etc is it worth changing them or should I stick to the standard discs & pads.

I'm on EBC drilled n grooved discs and EBC green stuff pads. Definitely recommend.
Black Diamond gear also get widely recommended on here.

Tim, do you not find the greenstuff pads a bit dusty?
I needed new discs and pads not too long ago myself. I went for EBC standard discs and greenstuff pads since they are supposed to be low dust/easy to clean. However, since being fitted I have found them to be worse for dust than my previous set, which I believe were either Jurid or Pagid from GSF. I used to think they were dusty until I switched to greenstuff! I too hace read good things of black diamond on here, but they are quite expensive. I think next time I will just go for the Jurid or Pagid set from GSF, cheaper and less dust than my greenstuff pads. Plus I couldn't notice any difference in performance when the new pads were fitted.

We don't supply black diamond disks but we do stock both Mintex disks and Maxtorq high carbon Group N disks. I have used the maxtorq on both my Polo GTi and my Lupo GTi and have found them to be superb quality and great value for money for a performance brake disk.6N2 GTI 00 wrote:Hi everyone,

For brake pads the Carbone Lorraine RC5 will give you great stopping power from cold and throughout the rest of the temperature range however they are very track orientated and on most cars tend to squeel from the high friction level which for a daily could be annoying. They do have a more road orientated pad compound coming out soon called "RC5 plus" which will sort this and still maintain the excellent stopping power. Good alternatives would be the Mintex M1144 compound pads or the Pagid Blue RS4-2 compound pads

Steve: I don't really get affected by brake dust much, as both sets of my wheels are flat faced and cover a majority of the brakes, so I haven't noticed an increase in it.

I've been really happy with my Lockheed 280mm discs and Ferrodo DS Performance Pads. Only thing is the brake dust from these pads is red. I quite like it, others may not though.
