Basic question - the 4 wires on a 98 Polo...

Hi all.

I imagine this is quite simple, but I just can't find the answer anywhere...

On my 98 Polo, aside from the 4 speaker wires, I have four wires for the stereo.

These are:

Red
Brown
Red / Brown
Blue / White.

Could anyone tell me which is which, please ( I'm just about to fit a new stereo, and don't fancy the 'trial and error' approach)

I too need to know this as my flat mates radio was nicked and they just hacked off the wires to get it out - trying to fit a new one but already blown the fuse 3 times!

I'm pretty sure its this:

Red = Live
Brown = Earth
Red/Brown = Switched Live
Blue/White = Nothing (Not connected to radio in car, and not even mentioned on wiring diagrams!)

Ah yes, you are right! Most stereos though don't have the option for this.

Silly me read the gr/bl thing on the wiring diagram to mean green and black! It actually means grey and blue!
