steering suspension probs

hey guys,need some help.i recently fitted colies to my car and all was fine but a few weeks later i started getting a clunk noise from the front which got worse n worse,took the colies off and refitted them and the noise went away for a few weeks like before?any ideas?the collies are the raceland type and in fitting i placed the original top spring seat on the blue cap,then bearing and top mount (have tried without original spring seat). have noticed that there is movement of the top mount when its tigtened down to the shaft but imagine the weight of the car ajusts that.have raised car up higher but no joy. gone on a bit but im pulling my hair out

You shouldn't place the original top spring mount on your coilovers, just the bearing and rubber top mount, did you also alredy got it re-aligned yet after mounting? You should!

yes the car currently doesnt have the original spring seat.havnt had it aligned as of yet but will book it in for that,think the coilovers are moving sidewards slightly and causing the knocking rather than up and down as they should

First of all you can't make "straight" assumptions if not having the suspension re-aligned yet. Faulty settings can cause all sorts of strange effects while driving.

Secondly, how much did you drop it on those coilovers? The moving sidewards you mention could happen, if you don't lower the car, but keep it at standard height with coilovers.

And last, why does everybody buy those f*cked up cheap sets from Raceland/Vmaxx/Tec Tuning or whatever people sell them under (they're all from the same factory though), good quality just costs some, you can't get good for cheap (unless you buy a second handed KW V1 Inox-line for a couple Pound at a scrappy)

LOL, think it's because insurance premiums hit the roof so most people don't have the budget for expensive coilies. Furthermore, finding aftermarket parts at a scrappy is harder then finding a needle in a haystack in the UK!

Luckily we don't have that crazy insurance premium system, if you want to mount coilovers, nobody cares, the insurance company will be the last to start complaining. Plus there's a lot of second-handed stuff to obtain here in Holland, nice bargains to score from time to time.
