New Key

I wanted to get a new key made for the car anyone know how much this would normally cost? The garage I got a quote from is £160; does this sound right to you?

hi i looked into this and asked my local dealer last week how much it would be for my key which doesnt have remote locking and he gave me a rough price of £50 for the key and another £50 for the programming.

ive read that dont take it to the dealer because they are too expensive, and just take it to a normal key cutting place and its around £25-£30

Without knowing if yours has an alarm and what not is difficult to say.

What is correct though is that you will need to get the key coded to the car as it is not cutting that is the issue. If you have an alarm built in then yes, generally Dealer only option which requires all keys to be present so they can each be coded to the car and any previous keys 'removed'.

IIRC this involves a 'live link' to Germany for the codes to be reset and refreshed.

I know of one or two Indys that advertise they can code keys, but I do not know what limitations there may be. I also understand that something may be possible with VCDS too - but thats too technical for me to begin to understand.

Buy the key off eBay for a round £30 then get an Automotive locksmith to cut it and programme it.

Just pop the key open to find the part number

Genius, was advised to do exactly the same thing by a friend. But Automotive locksmiths? Where to find one?

Have a look in the Auto Trader
