water pump

Post by kipper »

keep reading people saying about changing theyre water pump but is it something that will sooner or later fail or just something that people do for peace of mind?

i dont have service history as all the work i get done by a family member so it wouldnt be getting done at a service. ive had the thermostat changed recently as well.

Its recommended that the water pump is changed with the cambelt.

Did they not replace the tensioners?

The waterpump is on the cambelt drive...thats why its done together. You have to totally remove the belt to get the pump out.

The smaller tensioner is almost guarenteed to fail, it definitely should be changed with every cambelt change!

The waterpump is a part that is just recommeded to be changed at the same time, I guess because it's not greatly expensive, it can fail, and it won't cost any further labour to replace whilst the belt is being done.

I think it costs about £30? That's just a rough guess though (As I paid for my repair in one bulk so have no recollection). I also know there's two suitable types, plastic and metal (again not sure sure what about the part is different), but naturally go for the stronger metal one.

Its a cambelt off job, so unless you have the specialist tools, then no its not.

The water flow in the engine stops, the engine overheats, and the head gasket explodes lol
