Removing rubbing strips

Post by poloboyben »

Right saw this mk5 polo which had had the side rubbing strips removed from the door, front and rear bumper. Looked good, just wondered how if i could do this to my polo and how?

It's *a lot* of work. On the Mk5, there are holes behind the rubstrips on the sides, and that means it's a weld 'n' spray jobbie.

The strips on the bumper are recessed too, so if you take them out there's a lot of work involved in smoothing the recesses. If you're good with polyester/similar stuff you'll be ok. But, again - it's a lot of work.

or you can just take the car to a paint shop and tell them to do it.
you can leave them on and just paint them or if u like the smooth look, get them to fill the little holes  . either way is 8)

K, so if I removed the side strip my self with a hairdryer, how much is the local paint shop likely to charge to fill the holes? or to smooth over the strips?

well your going to have to get all the pannels with the holes left resprayed soon a 5 door your looking at 4 doors repainting
on the 3 door you need 2 doors and the rear 3 qarter panellls so its not a cheep option
