ADVICE ????
ive a 98 polo 1.4 16v, gearbox has just broken and need a bit of help, wat will fit in the car(golf, bora, lupo)or should i just get a second hand gearbox ???
Re: ADVICE ????
dont get a second hand one as you dont know how long its going to last, get a reconditioned one from garage and they put warranty under it which is worth it, and just get the same gearbox its easier and a cheaper
Re: ADVICE ????
A 16v gearbox is harder to find with a CWX code. Any 8v box will fit and be cheaper although the gear ratio's will be short. As Lorne suggested you'll be better off getting a reconditioned box.
Unfortunetly you won't be able to mate any other gearbox from the VW family.

Re: ADVICE ????
As above really, best idea is to have your own box reconditioned. At least you'd get a guarantee!
Re: ADVICE ????
^^ Your own box is the best guarantee although you should only be advised to do it if the damage wasn't major.
The damage to my box was catastrophic so it cost major £££ to get all the internals replaced. Get your box reconditioned if its not too far gone!
It should cost you in the region of £400-£500 for that.

Re: ADVICE ????
it might cost less depending where you go and how badly damaged it is but wont be any more than said above
