The 2.0 mk4 dream is dead :-(

Post by LeMeph »

Just won an auction om ebay for an Audi 80 2.0 16v! 175 pound its a runner with MOT nut no TAX but thats alright cause im gonna be sticking the lump in my open air. So i will have a 1600 AEE head and some R6 bike throttle bodies for sale if any one wants any! Ill put some pcis up when i get to a computer, the blackberry doesnt do copy and paste with any form of relative ease where ebay is concerned!

Its goimng to need a lot of modifying i know> engine mounts and driveshafts are my main concern everything else shouldnt be a problem!

gonna tax it when the V5 comes through this week and drive her about for a bit< figure out any niggly problems i might have> We towed it on a bar back from cambridge to east london on a bar via the A10 as we werent sure of the legalities of towing on a motorway> this all went t**s up mind when my mate tried to catch a red light in enfield, then saw the camera as he realised he wasnt gonnna get there in time locks up on the brakes and has 2 tonne of audi coming up his arse!

luckily i missed him but the tow bar bent in half and i ended up driving the audi from enfield with no power steering and the breaks were working as and when they felt like it. So yeh i had a scary weekend lol.

Any thoughts or doubters as to whether this will actually work?

Must've felt like a fairground ride judging by your journey home

Should be good if you manage to get everything working ok. As you know, i'm not mechanically minded so I can't be of any help

Wouldn't mind running the valver on TB but can't be bothered spending anything more on it!

How are you planning to get a tall-block, inline engine in an polo open-air?

with a great amount of difficulty and pain lol. But i know alot of guys who do drag cars, putting silly engines in little things and they will be lending a hand.

If the tall blocks to tall then ill have to get a shortened sump and cut a hole in the bonnet! if youve seen the state of my little red polo youll know im not too fussed about how it looks lol.

Fair play to you for giving it a go!

I've recently been to collect an ABF (2.0 16v golf) lump with a mate and looking at it on the stand without all the 16v induction it doesn't look that much bigger than a AEE.

Done quite a bit, ive mainly just been collecting parts at the moment ready to butcher and customise to fit my baby.

So far i have both cars stripped out. The engine as you can see hanging is almost ready to go in. We were just dropping it in there to make sure the clearence is available at the side of the engine as when we were tryign to put it in with the gearbox attached it seemed as though the pulleys would all be sitting on the chasis leg. But gearbox off however it looks like its going to fit nice.

Ive used the engine mounts of off a polo classic to support the engine. Initially i wanted to use the whole subframe as its the same as an ibiza"s so it was supposed to fit but alas did not! so we cut them off and welded them on and they seem to work fine and loverly!! Had the engine bolted to it off the car to make sure it lined up and looked right.

Any questions or opinions?

Looking good! Do you mean the engine mounts from the Ibiza sub-frame when you say 'cut them off'? Or do you mean you mean the engine mounts from the polo classic?

My mate has almost finished re-building his ABF and is planning to run it with throttle bodies and possibly Emerald management. That would mean plenty of clearance for the bonnet to be able to shut. How much room is there down the back of the block for the exhaust manifold?

it is indeed about time mr NOZ!!!

and what i meant with then engine mounts is that we had to cut off the mounts off of the polo classic subframe and weld them to the original polo subframe. I was originally hoping to bolt the polo classic subframe (which is identical too an ibiza subframe) straight to the chasis, but this doesnt work it seems!

Been back round there today and ive reaslised just how much of the chasis leg im going to have to remove to fit the gearbox and its mounting brackets! it looks to be quite suicidal lol. Lots of welding and reinforcing i reckons!!!

Clearence for the exhaust well... at the moment it looks like i have got more then i originally expected, though im now wondering whetehr the engine will be needed to drop a few more inches down to allow more clearence on the subframe, and also to allow the gear linkages to line up. So the subframe may not be finished yet afterall!

For the exhaust though i have a mk2 golf gti 16v stainles 4-2-1 manifold that i am going to cut bend and reweld a few tiems to get the angle i need. Though looking at it you could probably use a mk1 16v conversion manifold to get it to line up better. Its all experimenting and fun!!!

throttle bodies and emerald mangement! god that would be a dream for me lol. This is a bit of a pike ebay build i dont have the money for that kind of power just yet lol. All in good time when im back at work again though i think!! Polo might go on a backbence for a few weeks now as im also building a 2.1 16v caddy for a friend and a 2.016v mk1 golf!!! so much to do lol

Sorry people but the mk4 2.0 16v dream is dead. Just got really disheartened with ehr and after 5 years ive decided to let her go. So if anybody wants anything off the car then most things are a fiver lol. Suspension and engine/box pending prices. Post on here if your interested. The rest of her is getting cut into tiny pieces and put into the audi to weigh the pair in. However the engine stays with me.... and consequently.....
