gear stick

i bought a gear stick gaiter but im having a problem taking the gearstick off, any ideas on how to get it off? i just dont want to break it, it cant be just unscrewing ive had loasds of people trying it

i got pissed off with it earlier so i just rangged it off and when i put the new gaitor on it was a wel ballache, its too big but finally fit on and then gearstick wouldnt stay on til i got some super super builders glue stuff and its fine now bt if i get bored off it the scrappers will know im comin haha lol
