Is it possible for your car to randomly feel less powerful?

Post by aaronon »

I don't know why. . .but I've got it into my head that my 1.2 Polo feels less powerful and not as nippy.

Is this even possible that it loses a small bit of power? . . .it's not overly different. . . I can drive and can still take off quickly and what not. . .but it doesn't feel as. . . quick.

Is this possible? . . .would it not lose a really noticeable amount of power if it was broken?

Can anyone put my mind at ease? . . surely it's all in my mind if there are no warning lights and it still drives normally. . . it just "feel" different all of a sudden.

Hopefully I'm just over reacting.

You are probally used to the car and how it goes. The damp air can make a difference and its been mighty wet lately and if the roads are wet this will slow the car a bit.

Have you been driving 30 mph every where if so take her out and give her a good hard run! run I said lol
This sometimes can make the car appear sluggish used to happen all the time with my mums, I used to go up and down the dual carriage way to give it a clear out and the car would be more responsive.

I would check the plugs as you may have a cracked plug and this will cause loss of power.
When was it last serviced? the spark plugs could be knacked.

Thanks for your answers. . . it has been VERY WET here in Northern Ireland so that could be it :)

How would I check my plugs to see if they are cracked? Are the easily accessible and at the top of the engine? I'll give them a look tomorrow if you help me out with their location. :)

It's due its first MOT in November so it'll be due a service close to then (would Volksawagen be the only place to get it done? . . it's been serviced by Volkswagen Official every service so far so I guess that's the only way to make sure it's done right to get my book signed). Would they test the spark plugs for a service?

Thanks again.

I've been at work all day and still haven't got to check. . .the problem feels like I need to put the accelerator down more, and lifting the clutch up more as I do that to get it moving to a good speed.

they should replace the plugs depending on which service it is .. if your engine has a big plastic cover on it you will need to remove it and you will see the ht leads . follow them and the plugs are attached to them and are easily removed using a plug spanner, just remove one at a time and replace each as you go and reconnect the ht lead as you go. you will know if the plugs are done by the colour ideally they should be a greyish colour if black then there is a problem. If it is due a service get them to change the plugs and ask for the old back that you will have marked with a bit of paint so you know that they have definately changed them.

maybe the car is faster as before, but you are getting used to it so that way it seems slower.
