hi, could anyone tell me what is the cheapest to buy, run, insure and most economical polo out there, it would be a first car so, what can you recomend, im not bothered about performance or the chance for any complicated mods , but i would at least like power steering. what can i get for about £2000? otherwise can anyone recomend something similar but more economical e.g. would a seat ibiza be better value?
thanks for reading + i hope you can help

Re: pricing
well the insurance is gonna be your main problem and may limit you to the 1 litre.
you should definitely consider the 1.4 tdi, i picked up mine for under £2000 and it's a fantastic engine - i get 50+ mpg from a tank, can keep up with most cars and road tax is £35!
all the mkV polos have power steering so no worries there - you could also consider the mkIV which should be a cheaper to buy and is the easiest car i have ever worked on, i don't think all of the 1 litres had power steering so you would need to hunt around for one. also, the mkIVs seemed to be strangely popular with the elderly so there are quite a few about with low low miles! ideally try to go for something after 1997 in the mkIV as vw introduced a much improved replacement for the 1 litre engine (with a 'ickle bit more hp)
any polo you get is gonna be a fantastic car though!

Re: pricing
i have reason to believe the older polo is better.
my mum has a mk4 polo 1.3 and shes had it years, prob about ten years and barely had n e problems with it. i got a mk5 1 litre and had every problem known to man so am trying to sell it now and get a bigger car.

You can't use just your own car as an only example for the mark5 though. A majority are 100% sound if looked after properly.kipper wrote:i have reason to believe the older polo is better.

difference is if u gonna have the problems ur gonna have the prblems. like for example the pedal box is a common issue.
water pump, gear box engine problems.... assuming these are all normal problems with the polo kinda thing.....if it doestn make much sense sorry kinda drunk rightt now but u et what i mean i take it?
