The pin that the lock closes around has come loose. How do you get to it to tighten it.
It is hidden behind a hinging cover.

Re: Rear Hatch
im not too sure which bit your on about?
the 'latch' which the catches when closing is open on mine, hence no cover as such... a matter of just screwing the 2 side screws tighter...
any picture of which particular bit ur on about?
unless youve already fixed this now

Re: Rear Hatch
Hi John,
As you say there are just a couple of screws to tighten.....
However there is a plastic panel covering the whoile bottom inside edge of the boot with no obvious fastenings to remove it.
The pin that the lock closes around is obscured by a small hinging panel with no access that I can see.
I suspect the plastic panel has to come off but I'm reluctant to just start prising it off without some prior knowledge as to where any screws / clips are.
Hope this clarifies things, but I'll get a pic tonight as well.
Cheers,
Andrew

Re: Rear Hatch
yea well, your lucky, im just stripping ym 16valver the now, to get the panel off youll have to loosen the 2 side bits to this panel, think its 2 star* on each side,
then theres 3 pop buttons on the panel itself( youll have to bend right round to see them) they are a pain to get out, either pop out the inner circle first and the panel should pop off. i just put a flat head screwdriver behind the whole button and pulled them off.
i dont think theres much else to the latch itself other than the 2 screws.
hope this helps andrew.

Re: Rear Hatch
Hi John,
I've just spent 10mins stripping the cover off. Car manufacturers just don't design panel fixings with removal in mind do they ?
2 of the 4 side clips broke off even though i was pulling in the right direction.
3 of the bottom 6 clips broke the little plastic groove they sit in, in the panel. Each clip slides into place from the side so i was able to pull the whole panel to one side & disengage the last 3 safely......
I had to chuckle when I saw the hinge pin for the flap, there are no end stops so it had half fallen out as well.
The lock pin in question was hopelessly loose. I could see a smear of loctite residue on the screws so reapplied a generous blob before torquing up tight.
I'll have refix the clips onto the cover with some Araldite I think.
So much for German engineering eh..
Thanks for the help & good luck with your own rebuild.
Cheers,
Andrew
