whining 1.9 tdi 100 gearbox

Hi there,

as the title says, my gearbox makes an irritating whining noise at 40mph in 4'th. It whines in 5'th too, but the road noise helps to drown it out (you have to be grateful for small mercies sometimes). I did a search and found an old thread, ca. 2007, on the same topic, but it petered out before there seemed to be any resolution. My local dealer tells me there is nothing wrong with the car. Has anyone else been told this? I would be interested to know if any one else with the problem managed to get it sorted. The car is just under 2 years old with 11000 miles on the clock, which seems a bit low for a dodgy gearbox. Thanks in advance.

mine makes that noise at 40mph mate i wouldnt worry about it, mines done 96,000 miles

Was that my topic? I get it in 4th/5th at the same speed. Gearbox oil change didn't fix it, I just take it as part of the design now.

Think I may have posted with the same problem ages ago. Mine still does it (2003 , 39000 miles). Had it checked over and found nothing wrong. I Agree with david burton its just one of those things. Unless its getting worse i'd leave it.
