Picking my G40 up tonight...

Post by Dave-G4o-1.8T »

Hey guys I'm new by the way...anyhoo! :)

I was just looking through the autotrader when I seen the G40 and I thought I'd love one, £2,500, 70,000miles, konis, exhaust, momo wheel, however, it's a feckin' minter! So I'm gonna keep the Leon for using at weekends and what not, and I think I'll drive the G40 during the week!

Anyone wanna give me some pointers when going to look at it, what should I look out for?

Here's a pic...

ask when the charger was last serviced & ask to see the certificate for proof - very important.

Look out for a rusty fuel filler neck, these always go at some point on mk2/3 polos. Not the end of the world, but a good bargaining point as it'll cost you a ton or so to get fixed (less if you can do it yourself).

Apart from that just use your common sense really, give it a good test drive at low speeds & high speeds to see how it handles (but remember G40s are far from the best handling cars on the road!). The brakes will no doubt seem horrendous compared with your Seat, this is also normal!

Perhaps undo one of the boost pipes under bonnet & see how much oil is in them? A coating of the inside of the pipe is normal but if it's dripping out a fair bit then its a sign of worn oil seals in the charger.
