Hey I got this last year and went to a garage who VAG checked it, cleared it . . .after it came back on I took it again saying it could be the sensor.

He said it just needed cleaned, and sorted it out. :)

I had driven in some bad weather , through some big puddles and very heavy rain and wind the day before it came on so I presume some mud or dirt got into it and it just needed cleaned.

hi there aaronon,
when this happened to you was there any power loss????

my car is still running as it should and pulling well , ive had engine faults on other cars and they usually go to a default setting and move to half power.

cheers

Try removing the -ve from the battery and leaving it for a couple of mins. That will reset any faults, see if it comes back up after that. Mind if you do, you'll need to fully open and close your electric windows so the auto works.

To be honest, if the fault disappears, the light will go out after six or so engine starts, conversely, if the fault is permanent then taking off the battery wire will not help at all. I think that you should just wait until you can get the car scan'd with VCDS as taking the battery lead off will clear any stored faults so scanning the car will find out nothing. As said already one of the lambda probes will normally be the culprit "bank 1 sensors 1" is the one closest to the engine - and is the control sensor, "bank 1 sensor 2" is the post cat monitoring probe - it just checks for cat efficiency.

Mine came back last night. . . always happens after I go through puddles / very rainy roads.

Presume the sensor is just dirty.

Yeh this happend with mine recently, keeps comin on and off every now and then.. Had it vag-com today and something with the throttle came up, and he mentioned the sensor might need cleaning.

Got it booked in tomorrow for them to clean it.

Just wondering if anyone has had any problems with they eleci windows as my drivers has stopped workin?

Thanks

Hmm. The throttle is related to the o2 sensor?

I've mine booked in tomorrow morning at 9:30am. :)

A few weeks ago I noticed a difference in acceleration (before the light came on), and a slower second and first gear.

Do you reckon this might be related and once I get the sensor cleaned I will be back to normal?

Well how did your mechanic visit go?

I went and they did a VAGCOM.

It spoke about the "pressure manifold sensor" and gave 3 or 4 error codes.

Too much fuel injection and some other errors.

They cleared it and said sometimes the light flashes on even when you drive through a puddle so if it returns then they will fix the problem.

I'd rather they just fixed it as god knows when the light will come back on :(
