What's this noise?

Post by Dub-Ninja »

Hey guys...
I've got a noise coming from my car, when I get upto around 35mph onwards I can hear some strange kind of whistling noise coming from my left side of the car. I hought it might be something in my nearside front wheel. I can hear the reflection of the sound off walls etc. and it's kinda worrying me now. The car seems fine, but I just don't know what that noise is. Sounds as if somethings stuck in the brake caliper. Any help?
Thanks

Have your suspension checked, if the noise happens whilst you turn then it may be the bearings.

check for stones caught in your front brake disc shield, take the wheel off and have a look for anything wedged in there....

NOZ, if it is the bearing, is that something bad? I sometimes get this noise when I take a sweeping left turn in around 3rd or 4th.

Check the rear bearing.I had the same problem. It took me a 3 weeks to work out what is it,until I had someone on the back seat with window open.I always thought its coming from the front but then realise its coming from the back.Turn out to be the bearing.Cost about £7 from GSF Car parts and its very simple to change.

if it is the bearing sounds like its better to do it yourself,
i had to get three done on my first mot and the last one a few months ago, of which ended up costing just over £100!

what i noticed when the bearings had gone is the noise will get bad at a certain speed i.e 35/40 and then gradually get worse the faster you go, which you dont really want to do.
if you start to hear the noise at lower speeds this probably means the bearing is getting worse and you should get it checked out :!:

No need to worry guys. It wasn't my bearing. It must've been my clutch on its way out. My clutch went on the dual carriageway a few weeks ago. Ever since I've had that replaced the cars been fine. No strange noises. I don't get how the clutch was making the noise but it must've been the clutch... lol.

Sorry for the late reply.

I meant the gearbox bearings and not suspension!

Anyway I was a bit close if definetly is your clutch causing it. Glad to hear you got it sorted
