iPod connection to standard HU possible?

Post by pvr »

When I took the HU out as well as the CD player, I noticed a connector position at the CD end. Is that for the CD changer or so? Would it be possible to connect an iPod to the standard setup?

Did a search but not found anything relating to the standard units ...

Wow, I was thinking of posting a thread asking exactly the same thing yesterday!

Do you need to have the CD changer for the iPod connection to work? I just have a standard Beta radio unit.

A fiver sounds good, the original lead cost sounds like madness ! Appreciate you checking though.

I assume that none of them show the ID tags on the radio display?

Normally, iPod leads replace the CD changer. Well, that was certainly the case in both my BMWs.

pvr your correct i have the original VW 6 cd multichanger (wich ill be taking out before i sell it !) and the gamma radio (least i think its gamma might be beta) but i can only use either the ipod or the cd changer at any one time, if you manage to get one of the newer 9n3 sterios they can support both but no none of the standard VW HU's support ID tags with the VW stealers ipod lead but i think there is one that does its by a make called DENSION if you google that name you will get thier website... but again there quite pricey, havent had a chance to ask my friend yet but i will as soon as i can... but in all honesty i would just get a different headunit one that allows you to browse through the ipods menu's as you cant do anything like that using just a standard VW HU... i have to unplug the ipod choose an album or artist or whatever and the plug it back in... gets kinda tedious when your trying to drive, all i can do from the VW HU is choose a playlist well playlists 1-6, put it on shuffle, fast fiorward or rewing (after holding the button for like 5 mins) and skip songs... rather s**t to be honest !

my friends headset lets him scroll the entire ipod menu from the head unit and was only 150 pound.

Thanks for that. On my previous Z4 I had the Dension Icelink Plus which worked fine, especially with the satnav screen. I had not thought about checking their website for a VW though. I just know their Dice range is absolute rubbish so would not get anything from that.

An aux connection would be fine for this car though.

I've got an XCarLink plugged into a standard HU in my GTi. Works great and allows me to keep my CD Changer working too.

Now that was a very useful bit of info, looked at the unit and it looks spot on. Thanks for that.
