1.4 MPG Question - what do you get>?

Post by irishkeet »

Hi

i have a 1.4 MKv and my MPG seems a bit low, just wondering what others think and what others get.

ive done two fill ups and i get about 260 miles (last fill up cost £45)
I let it run down to the petrol light before filling up.

I do about 50 miles a day round trip to work, half at around 50 mph on an A Road and the other half stuck in traffic

cheers

I could do with getting that mileage,
I should have mentioned that my car has done 98.000
just had a full service & cam belt done
garage said the filter was fine but I might check it now.

cheers

Mines a 1.4 16v 6n2 the 75bhp model and if i fill up around £40-45 i get around 300miles before my light comes on, then after the light comes on you've stil got another 70-80mile left

I normally get about 340 on average out of my 1.4 16v 75bhp, but i filled up with shell v power the other day after hearing some things, and got that just before the petrol light even came on :D still going so will see what I get this time and that's all standard, air filters a bit grubby though and it clocked 88,000 yesterday

Check the air pressure in ure tyres, it makes a difference if ure running a bit low. I run at roughly 32-34psi

Rockin big, wide rims hammers ure mpg, all more resistance and weight

In my BMW Z4M, the change to BMC filter added about 10% to the mileage on a tank, so better filters do improve MPG. Not tried it on the Polo though.

Ok, well I have done the following...

Refited the EVAP solenoid

changed air filter - (when i got the car it went into the garage my partner uses near her work, they charged me £70 for a look over & oil change and told me the air filter was fine, both parts were grey and one had abit of oil - we wont be using them again!)
changed pollen filter - (this was disgusting and i doubt it has ever been changed, it was black)
changed the spark plugs for NGK PZFR5D-11
changed the fuel filter - also looked like it has never been changed
removed & cleaned throttle body - there was a build up of gunk & grease. When I replaced it the car started fine, from reading the polo forums I was expecting problems
cleaned battery terminals & connectors

TO DO
Transmission fluid - nothing to do with mileage but I doubt its ever been changed, when I chenged it in my camper there was a noticeable difference.
Coolant temp sensor to get from VW - the one I bought from ebay (not genuine) is throwing up errors

On my last tank I got 264 miles, will see what happens when I fill up again
