Remote central locking success

Post by jamegumb »

Hey Guys I recently decided to upgrade my MK4 to remote central locking. First I took it to a shop over here in New Zealand that said they specialise in installing remote central locking. He took one look at my car and said it couldnt be done! Not one to give up that easily, I did a bit of research on this site and someone gave me a link to a company that do universal remote central locking kits for any VW, so I ordered one. It turned up about 12 days later, but it was a complete kit, even had all the actuators, ie: with this kit you could convert a non-central locking car to remote central locking. I then got my mate ( sparky ) to have a look at the kit, he spent about 5 mins looking at the wiring diagram in the Haynes manual and the instructions that came with the kit, then he got his multimeter out and played around in the back of my car ( where the central locking pump system is located ) then said if he could trigger the doors to open & close from the boot the kit would work. It did. It took him about 15mins to wire it in to the VAG central locking system, and wala remote central locking!
Have had it in my car for about 2 weeks now and no issues.
The link for the site I got the kit from is http://www.ultimatecarparts.co.uk/
Good luck with your remote central locking. J
