Switched Live Connection

Post by Norbreck21a »

Hi Guys. At the weekend I fitted a Parrot CK3000 Evolution bluetooth kit to my Wifes 2006 Polo 1.4FSI Sport (9N3). As standard it is fitted with the double DIN RCD200 stereo / CD player.

I had to get a switched live for the parrot kit and eventually got this from the fusebox on the right hand side of of the dash (just tested all the fuses with my multimeter to find a swiitched live). Whilst it works perfectly, the ignition has to be in the "ON" position all the time (obviously) to power up the Parrot.

Now on my MK5 Golf, which by the way is fitted with the same parrot kit, (albeit that I have the steering wheel buttons rather than the Parrot keypad), my kit comes active when the ignition is switched on, but STAYS on, until the key is pulled from the ignition switch, i.e. it's irrelevant what position the key is in, as long as it's still in. Now this may all be something to do with CANBUS or whatever, but unfortunatley I didn't fit my kit so don't know where the ignition source was taken from. This is how I woul dlike my wifes kit to work so that if she is on a call and comes to a stop (say at home or in a carpark), she doens't have to keep the engine running to carry on speaking handsfree. All she would have to do is turn the engine off but keep the key in the ignition.

My question to you good people is, does anyone know if there is a switched live on the Polo that stays live until the key is removed (like on the Golf). I was told to take the ignition feed from the cigarette lighter, but from what I could see, it's got a permanent live ? any help would be very much appreciated.

I'm not 100% certain on this, but i believe the radio/cd player and the electric windows would be the best place to get a switched live feed from!

Ignition has to be turned on for them to work but when ignition is turned back off they still have a live feed to them unless key is removed. Or the power is cut to the windows if a door is opened when the ignition is off!!!

So if i was you, i'd try and locate the fuse for the radio or window and get your feed from one of them!

Hope this helps!

I got my switched live from the Aerial power behind the HU.
Its the blue cable in the harness but check it with a multimeter first just incase.
I just made a "y" adapter so i can plug the switched ACC into it and also have the aerial power too, No problems yet and have it like that nearly 12 months.

Any luck with this? i tested the connection for the blue wire and it does go off when the key is taken out of the ignition.

So I tried connecting this to my headunit as the ignition live wire (as currently the red and yellow wires are connected to permanent live wires so it is always on) but it still does not turn off the headunit when the key is removed. I still have to manually turn it off, but it will not turn back on again until the ignition has been turned on again :S

I think you need to switch the Red and Yellow wires round or the unit forgets its settings.
And then connect the ACC switch to the blue one.

It wont turn on without the key so no point in trying that one, It will continue to run untill the key is pulled but thats it.

no you've misunderstood me. My headunit remembers all its settings. But when i pull my key out the headunit is still switched on, I have to manually turn it off, but then once ive turned it off it won't go back on again. So why does it not just go off when the key is pulled out??

Let me get this straight - you have to turn your parrot unit both on and off independently of the ignition? Are you using the standard RCD200 radio and an ISO adaptor? Planning on doing this next weekend, with the standard stereo and adaptor and from what I understand you need to swap the red and yellow wires in the adaptor around so that red is the permanent live supply and yellow is the ignition live supply. Hate to ask, but is it possible you've put the wrong wire into the ignition live?

Why not just take the ignition live straight from the main radio power source? At least you can see that it turns off when you pull the key out.
