I've got the dreaded pedal box problem. Car is 9yrs old, 65k on clock. Clutch pedal started creaking about 3 weeks ago and felt heavy. Gears have got progressively more difficult to select and today started grinding every time. I'm thinking the pedal box must have cracked. I've phoned my local TPS and the've given me a price of £29.33 for the part. This sounds cheap to me and Im dubious that the've actually got this correct. They won't give me the part#, so I can't cross-ref it on the web!
Anybody know the part #?
Out of interest, what should a new clutch cost?
Thanks in advance
Marc

That price is about right dude. IIRC the pedal box itself doesn't cost that much, it's the labour that is so expensive!

Re: Need part # for pedal box
As emma said, thats the right price for a pedal box - it is just a formed metal box at the end of the day! Nothing functional in it lol
The cost comes from the fact the steering column has to be completely removed to get the box out, as the bolts cant be accessed without, plus the column runs through the box.
A new clutch - depend where you get it. A sachs clutch will cost 80-90 quid from GSF or so. VW ones are just recon generally, so a new one from GSF or Euro will be cheaper, and of the same or better quality.

Thanks for the replies guys. Glad to know the pedal box itself is cheap - I'll go pick it up now. I'm getting it installed @ 4hrs labour. Once fixed, the car's going up for sale.
