Not good!! Help!!

Post by BIG RHYS »

Hey every one, need some thoughts and advice, basically my car lost power last nite battery had died.

Thinking it was from the cold weather went out bought a new one and problem solved for a while till today when I tried 2 drive about 40 miles past Bristol and broke down  .

I am thinking it is the alternator has gone, was wondering how much would a new one be or should I try and fix it?

Thanks Rhys

Did you check the charging voltage generated by the alternator?

did the battery light come on rhys?

A new one is about 80ish plus fitting. Its possible your leads arent on properly - check they are all tight.

This happened to mine mate, turned out the contacts on the leads were a bit corroded and weren't contacting the sockets on the battery. Wipe off any excess grease, give a light rub with a fine grade sandpaper, regrease and attach, tighten up.

Not nice when I went over a bump and the whole car went off!
