Conversion :)
Did the mk5 come with a 1.9TDi lump as standard? Iknow the SDI lump, but can't work out whether it was a Tubro or not, seems DOG slow.

If not, how easy would it be to convert a 1.4mpi, to a 1.9TDi out of something like a Golf? Would it be along the same lines as a 1.8T conversion?

nope only ever a 1.4TDI and the 1.9SDI. The TDI 1.9 was only introduced on later models.

SDI isnt turbo - its just a straight normal injection diesel and is rather sluggish.

It would be possible, but depends on time and money. Would be along the same lines, but it may well be easier to just turbo up a 1.9SDI to be fair.

Just the 1.4 TDI and 1.9 SDI... I have an SDI... by no means 'fast' but it gets the job done and can be surprising depending on how you use it.

Just recently I've been thinking about upgrading to a 1.9 TDI... I'd love to do an engine conversion but I'm not sure if it's possible at all. I'd imagine so saying the 9N has a 1.9 TDI.. as does the Fabia VRS. And the 6n2 can't be THAT much different from them.

Hmm, seems like ALOT more work, might just try and source a 16v and put it in.
