Gearbox Failing

Post by Brad. »

So I had it refurbished about 3 months ago. On the 11th of august in fact, by a Gearbox Company.
Now its failed and it punched a whole in the casing, nothing massive but enough for the oil to drain out onto the drive. The car was never driven after this.

Gearbox was stripped out and was given back to the matey who refurbed it. He's refusing to do anything to it, under any sort of driving. A gearbox should last ALOT longer than 4 months!?
I don't drive my car hard, purely for the fact that the gearboxes ARE weak. I know they're weak and expensive to replace.

Now where the f**k do I stand, I'm without a car, and as atm, without a gearbox or any resolution.
HELP!

I hate the gearboxes in polo's

I had a refurb aswell and it didn't last long.. went back, changed it to another one, no problem.. 2nd gearbox so far so good *touch wood*

I don't really know where u stand but I would fight my corner until they fix it.. I'm sure u expect a gearbox to last more than 3 months aswell as them..

Have you got a company receipt for the work done? You can speak to trading standards and consumer advice as the gearbox work should hold at least some kind of warranty on parts and labour.

A gearbox should last well over 20k, like well well over. Most last the life of the car!
