polo gti central locking
hey im having a proble with my central locking. thie been some snow latly and my locks froze so instead of using my keythob to open my doors i had to insert the key to open the one door. since then i everytime i use the keythob to disable the alarm my doors dont open and i have to open them with the keys. i dont think my central locking is broke i think its got to do with my alarm or keythob. if anybody could help it would be much apricated thx for the help.
Re: polo gti central locking
Im not sure sounds like the central locking pump to me,could be wrong though. If the fob disarms the alarm then its transmitting with the car no problem so to me would eliminate the keyfob from the fault. How cold has it been where you live?.Some guys around my area with older Golfs etc have been having problems with the central locking freezing and they've left it a few days to warm up and it's been fine.
Sorry i havent been a great deal of help.

Right so when you use the key in the doors, does the CL pump run?
If not, Id first check the fuses namely numbers 38 41 39 and 26 as these are all related to the CL

HI
Ive had exactly the same problem today, remote fob disables and enables the alarm and indicators flash/interior light goes on/off as it should, just the doors, boot and the feul filler flap wont open.
i have to manually unlock it, also took mine to my uncles garage today he checked the fuse and said it was ok and said i should probably run it until the weather warms up
its a real b***h because ive just started back commuting to uni, and my fuel light came up on the way home today so im praying it gets sorted before i run out of gas...kinda glad to hear im not the only one either

The central locking pump (its located behind the rear offside (right) light cluster) is quite audible when it is activated. If you can't hear the noise of the pump then its not being triggered when you use the fob I guess. When mine failed it was intermittent for a while but then stopped working altogether. I could only get in through the boot as I have delocked my door handles!
My replacement CL pump has been working perfectly in this weather, down to -9 at times

Re: polo gti central locking
yeah, before i could hear a slight humming sound from the pump but now theres just nothing. i did change batteries in both keys but to no avail so eliminated that
i think im gonna have to get a pro to check it out, fitting a stereo is about my limitation of electrical know-how!
managed to get the fuel filler cap open though using pikey initiative
which was a relief!
Si, how much did a new central locking pump set you back? and is there just like one master pump or a pump for each component that opens?
cheers, Jack

I got my replacement central locking pump from a fellow member who was breaking his car, I paid £40 +P&P. I think they're close to £200 new! Its only one pump and its pretty straightforward to swap it over. I found that mine had got corrosion where the power plug met the pump, when I took it out

Re: polo gti central locking
I had a problem with my central locking last year and it turned out to be the seal on the petrol cap motor, it had perished and was leaking air and wouldnt lock the doors.
If the pump isnt making any noises any more, i would say it is probably faulty pump

Re: polo gti central locking
took it to VW specialists Lion Garage in Leicester, it was a faulty pump in the end. water had got to it through the rear light and the guys showed me the mildew and damp on the old one.
new pump and labour set me back a cool £285
...needs must i guess!
