yhhh my solution... for some weird reason there was a wire that had been broken between the door and the chassis (there is a rubber bit that goes from the door to the chassis)... a brown wire (earth i presume)
i simply connected them, soldered them and taped them! worked a charm
hope this helps
n make sure u check this!
MR BOBBY G was rite lol!!!!
wel half right it did not short circuit as was trying to work (the omnious click sound) bt thanks again lol

Re: HELP!!!
The exact same brown wire that snapped in mine, although the passenger window stilled worked etc.
For all those having problems, its worth checking very carefully in the rubber for broken wires

Re: HELP!!!
dude didnt even get a chance to look i work 6 days a week with two jobs and only really had time to fit my black angel eyes and the hid kit but at 3:30 am on saturday my passenger window decided to go down and not come back up so had to strip the door at almost 4am... i was not happy and i cant do it now lol cause the car went into the spray garage today to redo my roof as they done a shoking job and left over spray all over my windows so i took that back to complain, im hoping i can look before next monday when i loose my car again for a week cause im having my front end all redone from where i crashed... cant wait to have smoothed bumpers again... and even more so an red bonnet and bumper
are your windows sorted did the switch sort it ?... if not ill buy it off you lol.

Re: HELP!!!
Fair enough!
I havent had chance to have a good look yet either to be honest. My car is parked in an apartment block carpark and it's not easy (or allowed for that matter!) to start taking bits off it! I'm moving house soon though, and will be trying all this stuff when I'm in the new place!
I've literally just been outbid on the electric window switch! I'm toying with the idea of upping my bid at the moment, but I'm just not convinced that's the problem!!! It has to be connections related, which would explain why it's happened in the cold weather!!!
Good luck with the lights, bonnet, bumper, windows, paint, etc etc!!!!

Re: HELP!!!
bobbyG... did you fix your window ?... mine still dosent work lol
Re: HELP!!!
Nope, not looked at it yet bud! I'm planning on having a look over Easter weekend....
In the meantime my central locking packed up, but it sorted itself out thankfully! (after having to yank the filler cap cover off to put petrol in!)
These Mk5's really don't like the cold do they!

Re: HELP!!!
Quick question:
My window's still not working, can anyone advise what the problem might be?
- The window works using the key in door lock method.
- There is power running through the window switches as they light up, and also the central locking button works.
- I can still hear the electronic "clicking" noise when pressing the switch.
Therefore for some reason pressing the window switch is not activating window movement, even though the window mechanism is fine.
I'm getting desperate now, using car parks is becoming a right ball ache! HELP!

Re: HELP!!!
Guys,
I have a theory on this as our 6N2 has exactly the same problem. Neither o/s or n/s window opens using the switch panel on the drivers door. But when you pull up you can hear it clicking.
I removed the rubber grommet from the door hinge to find a few frayed, but not broken wires... I've taped them up but I believe these frayed wires have basically caused both switches to burn out.
I even split one of the switches open to find it was all burnt inside.
Does anyone know if you can buy the switches individually from VW or do you have to buy the complete switch panel? My locking switch is working fine so no need to replace that, and I'd rather not use second hand switches if this is such a common problem..
Cheers
