Finally moving on

Hey guys, long time no speak! Hardly on car forums now as life is pretty busy these days Today is the day I sold my soul to the devil and bought a Fiat! Which means the Polo will be going around the end of March. Ironically I'm still loving it and now I feel really guilty as if I had room and more money I'd keep it as well as my new car. I will always be attached to my first car

Next month I'll be tidying the car up. Need to get the wheels refurbed as they are wrecked, but then I don't have wheels I can use in the mean time. Is it worth getting them done for £200 or just take the price down when I sell? Have to re-attach my rear wiper, get my new alarm re-calibrated along with a good clean and she will be ready to sell. I really want to make sure it goes to someone who will look after it and not some boy racer

It came down to the new Clio 200 and the Abarth 500 SS. Although the Abarth is dearer to buy, over 3 years taking into account insurance, resale value, tax, petrol, the Abarth works out over 2k cheaper. I don't need a particularly big car and I drove it in March and found it to be a worthy step up to the Polo. Cost me 18.2k so you will think I'm nuts! Ordered it in red with the white SS multispoke wheels. Got the white mirrors, side stripes and checked roof. Obviously with the SS kit it will come with 160bhp. I also get to keep the standard wheels so can use them in the winter (screw running white wheels in this weather!). Didn't go for leather as the cloth seats look just as good - the leather was £800 and not even heated so wanted to save a bit of cash. 18k is enough for a small car nevermind 19k! Also went for Xenons because after the GTI I couldn't go back to halogens

Looking forward to getting it but not looking forward to seeing the Polo go

Times change mate.Hopefully you'll get a decent buyer who's into the scene.About getting the wheels refurbed thats a hard one.If it was me i would get it done,i mean you go to look at 5 GTI's and one has really good condition RX2'S it's going to stand out compared to the 4 that haven't.Only things that rwally let these cars down cosmetically when buying one is the standard wheels corroding.With them refurbed yours will be the complete package.

Abath ay,quite abit of talk about these.Are you pleased with it?.Aren't these the same engine as the older Punto GT's?.1.4 turbo?.Hope not so many bloody problems with that engine.Still it's new you've got warranty etc.

Without a doubt, get the wheels refurbed. I've been looking at GTI's lately and almost any of them I come across with corroded wheels I just lose interest in immediately. Seeing them with a good set of wheels as Bradley says just completes the package. Good luck with the sale and health to enjoy the new car

They are nice cars. A mate at work has a white one with red wheels, he's gone from a Mec C63 AMG to a Boxtser S to the 500. But 18K is alot of money, when you look at the used cars you can get for that.

If it was me spend £18k I'd have an used S3 or Z4 coupe. Buts its not me So Hope your happy with you new toy!

Yep I considered E46 M3's. But I don't need a big car with out and out speed just yet. The Abarth proves you don't have to be mega fast to be fun. Although on paper it doesn't feel much faster than the Polo, it feels quicker (obviously because of the turbo and less weight). It's also better to drive

I'll def. get the wheels done then. I've been on ebay every week looking for another set of 16" RX's I could run whilst getting the others refurbed, then sell them again

Engine in the Abarth is the newer 1.4 T-jet. Not sure if this is based on the older Fiat engines. Definately is a good car with Schumacher and Jay Kay buying them. I read some guy had a John Cooper Works Mini and got rid of it because he preffered the Abarth SS

I would personally make use of 18k in a much different way, but I know it's been on your cards for a while, good job!

Hope the Polo goes to a good home, and I agree with getting the wheels done. But why not just pick up a crappy pair of steels from a breakers to run in the mean time, instead of more RXs?

Got some 16" RX II's on the way as temp wheels whilst I get my RX's refurbed

People said I could get the last gen M3 for the same money. Too much fuel. I'll wait 3 years, sell the Abarth and buy a second hand E92 M3

Broke off some of my mods today so I can get more money. BMC, TT pedals, stubby aerial will soon be up for sale along with little bits and pieces. Got my rear wiper back on but I've totally screwed the washer pipe. Doesn't matter too much as they don't work anyway when "working", will let the new owner know not to use it!

Congrats for your choice. I do like it too. For same money you have so many other choices but who cares when you are satisfy
Does it feel the turbo well ? Imo the modified polo gti is faster.

It certainly made my Polo feel sluggish, response is instant rather than having to wait for the power. A modified 1.8T Polo may feel quicker, depends what it's tuned to. The SS is faster than a 9N3 GTI as standard

My brother owned a 6n2 gti and replaced it with the 1.8t gti polo and then a month or two ago replaced that with this:



The abarth 500 ss feels a lot quicker than even his 1.8t polo and gets no end of looks off people, its very quirky, a lot of fun and he doesnt regret spending neally 18k on his one bit.

Yeah the little Fiat's are smart to be fair and look cool.

I would rather put 18K on the new Polo GTI though rather than a Fiat. The New GTI's look awesome

I agree however a couple of months ago when he bought his car there was very little news on a new 2010/11 polo gti, it will be great, no manual option though which may put some people off, not that the dsg isn't mint ofcourse though

I was down in Edinburgh with the girlfriend for the weekend so popped by the Abarth dealer to see when my car would be ready. More accurate date of Sat 10th April given. Now got til the end of the month to get my RX's refurbed, remove a few more mods then give the car a full interior / exterior detail before ready for selling at the beginning of April

If anyone knows anyone looking for a good example of a well maintained GTI with a few mods thrown in, tell them to give me a shout at the end of the month
