Reverse Gear Crunch

Post by lowfoon »

Regularly whenever I put my car into reverse it crunches every time. Although there are some rare moments where it doesn't.

I've had a reconditioned gearbox fitted about 10k miles ago. I was thinking maybe the clutch as I've noticed it slipping sometimes.

hello mate, all of the 6n2's have the same issue.
But if you keep your foot on the clutch, for a couple of secs..then into reverse it should be ok.

yeah I have the same issue but my clutch is good so it does not have to do with it. as said if you keep the clutch depressed for a few seconds it would not do it. you can also avoid it by not engaging the reverse gear as soon as you stop the car, give it some time before

Possible pedal box on its way out. I had crutching gears until I changed it. Now smooth in and out. Reverse was the worst for me then 1st and so on.

Well I took it to VW to be done. Think it cost me around 450 to 470. Mine was so bad I could see the movement in the frame/box behind my clutch pedal.

Any other way of distinguishing it is the pedal box causing the problem?

Well I just went through the usual checks to make sure it wasn't the clutch (bite point etc) then started to check the pedal and once I thought it was that I had a garage confirm it before I took it to vw and have a genuine new box fitted.
