I think it's 55bhp, not to sure.

It's ok. Now I have the alloys on it the hadling has improved 10 fold. In terms of power It's only my superior driving skills that allows me to dust of saxos, secquento (sp) and the like lmao. It's not the fastest machine out there.

I'm 19 now So hopefull when I'm 21 with 3 years ncb in 2006 Gti me up baby lol.

I remember my old 998cc Mini being like that, a hoot round town but all revs and no go out on the A-roads :D

It's the same with the GTi - get up to about 80+ (on a private road officer  ) and I'm looking for a 6th to calm it down a bit on the motorways and stuff... Lupo GTi 'box anyone?

The latter part of your statement however, you may be chased away by a group of angry people holding clubs and bats

The 1.0 Mk5 has only 50bhp @5000rpm and 63lb ft of torque I believe. Thats what the brochure says for mine anyway :D

I always find performance is fine if theres only me in the car. However as soon as you start to add people and luggage and stuff it just falls through the floor. Gearing can be annoying when you are sat at 5000rpm doing 85mph (on the Autobahn of course).

Handling however is another matter. Sticky Yokohama's means mine is quite entertaining cross-country.

And at the end of the day, I'm only 19 and when I look at the alternative cars I could be driving I think I wouldnt swap it for anything.
Except maybe a Lupo GTi when I can afford it.

polos are slightly heavier than corsas saxos etc. due to higher build quality so losing out to them on traffic light dashes will be expected.

but at least polos wont fall to bits on an uneven road!!

i currently own a saxo vtr, but am looking to buy a 1.4 polo...

...ok so it wont be as quick, but opening and shutting a door on a mk5 polo just says its all, there so solid, the interior is nice and the car isnt a tin shed (like my vtr)

i look forward to being the proud owner of a polo, and look forward to owning a real car!!! :D

Hell yeah. I wanted one of those but they're like rocking horse droppings. I know a mate who's got a Mk4 16v and I was dead set on getting one until I saw the GTi! Just had a quick search on volkswagen's used car pages; over 30 GTi's for sale, no 1.4 16v models listed unless you want a Mk6...
