Hi guys the central locking has packed up on my car. Over the last year it has been intermittent, it would normally groan when locking and unlocking. The key fobs still activate and deactivate the alarm. I can still get into the car by manually inserting the key. Only problem is I’m on the red with petrol and the filler cap wont open!
I have read on here to check fuses 38 41 39 & 26 which I will try later but I have a feeling it’s the pump as there is no noise what so ever when I try to unlock the car.
Question 1: Is there any other way of opening the filler cap when the central locking has locked it
Question 2: How much is a replacement pump likely to be including fitting?
Thanks Guys

I had the exact same problem about a week ago!
To open your petrol cap - The pump is in the boot, just behind the driver side light. Disconnect the blue pipe from the pipe, then either suck or blow into the pipe - This will keep the cap open until your central locking is sorted.
You can pick up the pumps for about £40 from either a scrap yard or try eBay. Getting one direct from VW will cost a bomb. To connect is simple, just re attach the blue pipe and you're away.
If I can do it, so can you!

This happened to me a couple of weeks back too!
I was running on vapour through the streets of London, but eventually decided I'd stop and rip the fuel filler cap off if I had to.
Turns out that with enough force I was able to pull the flap open without causing any damage, at which point I was able to simply push the pin to the "unlocked" position to avoid future occurence.
As is the very nature of the GTi the central locking began to work again as soon as I got home, I swear it was put on this planet to annoy me

Re: Polo Gti Central Locking
Thanks so much for the reply, I have located the box, which was wrapped in a plastic bag with brown tape around it (By VW) as it broke the day I got the car, about 6 years ago. I disconnected the socket and re connected it and it worked and i was unable to lock the car. It doesn't sound healthy as it kind of fizzed when it did it. I will have a look on ebay for a replacement motor.
Does you know the correct part number?
Also how do you get the blue pipe off as I tried of five mins and gave up as I don't fancy snapping the connector.
Thanks you have been very helpful

Central locking pump part no: 6N0 962 257 A
As for the blue pipe, I prized mine off with a flat headed screw driver. Just ease it off, it will eventually give in

Superb, managed to get the box out, will see if it was just a dry joint and if not will replace the box this week. Thanks very much for your help. much appreciated, didn't fancy paying £200+ with VW
