Hi guys.
I have got another problem again.I've noticed that my car has started making a noise in the rear when I hit speeds of 20mph+. It gets louder when the speed gets higher as well. The noise doesn't go away in neutral either. Me and my friend (who is training to become a mechanic) took the rear wheels off. Something was loose in the rear right drum so we tightened it. Much to my surprise, the noise got louder. It's baffling me and worrying me at the same time. Any ideas? I've also greased the brakes as well...

It only happens when you are moving?
That would suggest either a stone chip, a buggered wheel bearing, or something is trapped somewehre
Can you get a recording of the noise, and can you place the sound by listening with the windows open whilst moving?

I'm not sure whether I can get a recording of it. It sounds
as if something is grinding. The best description (friends descriptions who have sat in the car whilst hearing it) is "It sounds like a motorbike in the distance". My mechanic friend said "The wheel bearing looks fine. I know what a buggered one looks like". If it is the wheel bearing... How much will it cost including labour and what are the dangers if I leave it too long?

Hmm its difficult to imagine.
You need to try and place it to rule certain things out!
Depends on which bearing. The bearings in any case are cheap, but the fronts are expensive to have replaced due to needing to be pressed out and in.

I'm positive that it's the rear. How much is it for the rear wheel bearings?

Assuming yours has drum brakes, its a rather easy task. Will take about an hour or so, and a couple of sockets to drive the old race out the hub.

it could also be your brake shoes on the rear are either worn out or have come apart, and are causing it!

My brake shoes seemed fine from looking at them. This noise only started other day when I hit 105mph down the dual carriageway a week and half ago. It's been getting louder and louder as the days are going by "/
