key remotes dont work!

Post by mikegti »

ok the problem is that both of my key fobs stopped operating the remote central locking and alarm...at the same time!
I'm guessing that they've somehow come unsynchronised from the car (its not a battery problem), so does anyone know how to get them working again?
my vw manual says that the 'procedure should be completed within 1 minute', but it doesnt say what it is!

can anyone help?

cheers,
mike

might be worth asking on www.uk-mkivs.net (mk4 golf forum) as many more owners will have remote locking etc

 In my handbook it suggests pointing the remote key at the car and holding down the unlock button for about 30 seconds I believe, and then the car should re-sync itself.

HTH?

cheers Si,
Where did you find that in the manual?

what else do you have to do? and should the doors be locked / unlocked before you do this?

also I noticed that my interior light no longer turns on when i take the key out the ignition... could these be related? maybe the car thinks the key is still in the ignition and so wont let me lock the keys in? (just a thought)

cheers

if its definitely not a battery problem you have 2 options either the remotes are faulty or you need to code them in.

to code the remotes in you need both your keys, first use one set of keys to turn on the ignition on use your other key to lock the door manually. now with the fob you have outside the car you need to hold down one of your buttons any button for 3-5 seconds let it offfor 3-5 secs and hold on again the indicators should flash within a couple of seconds if not try again and if still not working then its probably your fobs cos changing the batteries usually dont work!!!

if you get new fobs thats how you code them in

oh by the way you need to that for each fob!!

thanks 4paws, I'll try that one later when I get home!

I'll probably have flattened the batteries soon with all this button pressing I've been doing lately!

Just to confirm something...

my 6n2 don't have an alarm...

Is it true that only the GTi's came with one as standard?

How much is an OEM alarm? (Frm VW themselves, including fitting etc...)
