Rumors about my GTI

Post by maco »

So, some strange rumors came to my ears yesterday! The bad ones! My car suposed to be a test car with around 180.000 kilometers! In reality the car shows 85.000 kilometers! The seats, stearing wheel, all sem OK! Is there a way to find out how many kilometers the car really has? I heard that this is possible? Any ideas? If the dealer f****d me up there will be a murder!

Test cars (at least the proper test cars VW use) get scrapped. Maybe it's been used as a demo car, but even then they only use demo's up till about 10 or 20K.

Are there any clues in its service history?

Ask

Is you ask VW and supply the VIN number, they should be able to tell you all about the car.

VIN number is? Where can I find it?

PS: what do you mean VW? Their dealer or direct Deutshland VW?

chassis number, the Vehicle Identification Number, usually in the fron windscreen attached to the dashboard. Then go to a local VW dealer with it to ask about it or you can send a email to VW customer service on their web site I would think. The dealer where you purchased the car from will be able to get details on the car from the vehicle registation and the VIN. hope this helps.

Thanks for the idea, but the thing is more complicated! I suspect that the man who sold me the car and the dealer (where the car was sold in the first) are suspicious! So I must use some other VW dealer? Is there possible to check the REAL kilometers?

Try

Post by morrismen »

Well, perhaps try another local dealer and see if they can provide information on the car... look at http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/home and select Retailers then type in your post code to find dealers local to you. That's all I can really suggest. If you suspect something is wrong with the mileage, like it's been clocked, they'd have had to have had some pretty sophisticated computer techology to wind the digital reading back - I would say this is virtually impossible nowadays on these computerised mileometer readings, and an official VW dealer would not do it anyway. Only the French Peugeots make mileometers that read wrong and they are currently renowned for winding on a few hundred miles each time you start the engine! This does not happen with VWs though.
