MPG

Post by MrP »

Just used my full tank and only got 250 miles (27mpg), don't think that's too good going by previous threads

It's been on VAGCOM and no sensors came up, can they still be faulty without showing up?

Is there anything I can do to improve this? new fuel filter? any cheap sensors worth changing etc etc?

it was last serviced Jan with new plugs, oil, oil filter and it has a pipercross fitted at the moment too.

I guess with any car it all depends how you drive it.

Typically what sort of driving are you doing?.Short, town driving is worst and long motorway driving the best.

I do a mix of the two and normally get about 320 miles out of a tank.Driving at higher revs again as with any car will use more fuel than it does with high gears and low revs.

250 sounds pretty poor.... Do another tank full and see if you are consistantly low...

if it is... then I would perhaps look at getting the car on an emissions reader and check that... and also check compression...

I would also expect 320 or so miles from a tank with "average" driving... with very very good behaviour I can manage nearer 400.... running on vapour!!!

Just out of interest... do you have an ARC or AVY engine?

Motorway driving mostly, will get 330-350 then the light comes on.

Have had a 400 mile tank before but was driving like an old man!

Generally get between 35 and 40 mpg depending on driving style/mood. 8)

Yup... the earlier GTI had an ARC engine... the newer one has an AVY engine.. there is very very little difference between them! Few subtle differences in plastic mouldings on top and a few changes to the block... both are the same power rating.
