Re: Ben's Polo GTI Progress Thread - Detailed!!! Page 4
Cheers Tim,
Its taken me nearly 2 years to get to this point and I am now finally satisfied with how it looks.
There are still some bits that are not there yet but its 85% complete. The front bumper, bonnet & roof need a respray and I still need to fit my manifold, strut brace, short shifter & exhaust system. That should all be done this summer, which just leaves the re-map then.

UPDATE 05/05/2010
Right bought a few new items for the Gti recently, most of which are not yet fitted.
I uprated my fog lights the other week for a set of H7 White/Blue bulbs which look much better and I also bought myself a set of LED Number Plate lights which are ridicously bright at night
Anyway here's a few pics of the other new parts
Firstly a set of Toyo Proxies T1R's for the Front Wheels (These are for when the 16" RXII's are back on the car) 195/40/R16
These arrived on Saturday Morning - massive thanks to Tegwin, these should look great when fitted.
Here is the Mongoose Exhaust system that I bought from Demon Tweeks. This should sound awesome when fitted along with the Raceland Manifold (Finally). Its a Cat back system with Twin 3" tailpipes, stainless steel ofcourse
Here's a few snaps I took the other day whilst I was up the Denbigh Moors
I am not happy with the current ride height but I can't go any lower at the moment due to my driveway at home
Be nice to finally get rid of the standard exhaust system, I was told it needed changing nearly 15 months ago but its still going
I will get some more pics posted when the exhaust & manifold have been fitted, still got plenty of bits & bobs that I want to get done but its coming along nicely.
Ben

Keep me posted on the manifold - im tempted by one if the work is realistic
Also, how much were the toyos delivered and where from if i may ask?

No problem mate will do I hope it isnt too much hassle to fit, the lamba sensor needs to be extended and apparently the clearance on the sump is not brilliant but I will just have to see how it goes.alexperkins wrote:Keep me posted on the manifold - im tempted by one if the work is realistic

The Toyo's were £60.00 each from Demon Tweeks with a £8.50 carriage charge which I thought was reasonable.
I bought a set of Falkens from them the other week for the G60's and they were only £38.00 each so its certainly worth checking them out, good price and they usually have stock.

I thought it had to be bent to clear the sump full stop?
Interesting. Mine are 16s like yours though so tyres arent cheap!
Probably gonna get Yoko SDrives on mine...heard good things

I am not 100% sure if it needs to be bent but I guess i'll find out next week when it goes in for fitting lolalexperkins wrote:I thought it had to be bent to clear the sump full stop?

If that's the case then I dont think it will be a problem because my mate has got all the gear in his garage to sort that out.
Yeah 16" tyres with a low profile tyre wall are never cheap, the Yoko S drives would be a great choice.
They might cost slightly more than the Proxes but they last much longer and the grip is just as good.
I had Yoko S Drives on my original 15" RXII's and they were great.

Yeah mate all the holes are sorted
The gasket look's a bit dodgy on the manifold though, it doesnt line up perfectly but hopefully it will be OK.
Cheers for your PM Craig, nice one

Few More Updates from the Weekend
Made a small start on the engine detailing, got rid of alot of dirt & dust.
Fitted my new Grille minus the GTI badge & red piping which will follow in a few days time. The rocker cover will be re-sprayed in the coming weeks and I will finally get rid of the manifold heat shield (when the raceland is fitted).
Fitted my New GTI sill protectors too, pretty pleased with them. Easy to fit, cheap and they look alright
Here is some of the pics
What is wrong with this picture? can you spot the fault
More updates will follow shortly

Sill Protectors seem to be the new thing to have at the moment, but I think they look pretty cool and are not over the top. With yours being a Silver Gti I think they would suit it even more

Its not the best of pictures really but if you look carefully you will see the rear passenger side wheel is completely off the ground. The suspension is so firm that if the front wheels are on a slight gradient it tends to come off the ground
I will get a better pic when I can but it basically looks like a dog cocking its leg
