Lopo GTi box in a polo GTI?

Post by bradley1983 »

Does it go in easy?

What work needs to be done to get it in?

I am on my 3rd box now!!!

They will fit but I am not sure if they are a direct straight fit.

3rd box? I read your Car has done 65,000 miles too, mine has done the exact same mileage and is still on the original box (going strong).

Are you driving it a little too hard? 8)

Am I driving it a little too hard? Hell Yeah!!!

I want a 6 speed box. Might be a bit stronger.

I was told that some work has to be done.

Vw made a crap box!

I'm now starting to stick in gear sometimes!!!

I have had enough! Roll on July when I will order the new polo gti! But they won't be doing a manual I have been told by VW today!

They WILL fit, but you need to fit the hydraulic clutch mechanism onto the pedal box and run the relevant pipework to the gearbox.... IMHO... not a technically difficult job, just a real fiddle to do unless you remove the steering column!

If you want to pay someone to do it for you... yes its going to be expensive.... its not a simple unbolt/fit..... so most places wont be interested...

I recon I could do it in a weekend if I had all the parts... would be a painfully fiddly job though... and im not so sure the 6sp is actually any stronger than the 5sp.... plus its got the same final drive ratio...which makes it somewhat pointless unless you like changing gear more often¬!

Agreed. Unless you are getting shoddy, partial gearbox rebuilds, it should be solid as a rock.
