Not sure if it would be the same as the card holder on the other side of the HU. If it is, then just remove the HU and pop the holder out from behind...I need to do this on mine soon as it doesn't open properly after some coke got on it

Remove the head unit, and there's a small hole on the cup holder side of the opening where one of the clips that holds the cup holder in is located. You can get your finger in and push the clip out. I ended up using a screwdriver to push it in and prise the old cup holder out. Once it starts moving, just pull it out from the front.

Think they are about £20 from the stealers, can't remember the exact price. There's probably a few on ebay for less than that though...

You probably could remove it with out removing the head unit. I don't really know how easy this is as I took my head unit out to do the job.

To be honest, unless your HU is a complete PITA to remove, I reckon you're better off taking it out. The design of the cup holder makes it look pretty difficult to remove from the front without running the risk of damaging the surrounding plastic. There isn't really much of a gap to get any sort of tool in to prise it out or anything like that.

No need to remove the headunit at all all you need is a small flat blade screwdriver and put this in at the right handside of the cup holder about 1cm from the top and push in only a short distance max 10 mm and push the screw driver to the right( steering wheel) direction and this should as it did with mine release the cup holder. If you have the replacement cup holder you will see where its locating catches are and this is where to put the screwdriver to prise out. Good luck
