Polo Servicing

Post by Rampage »

Hi, I've not been on here for a while.

Our Polo 1.4 SE petrol is now out of warrantee and is due a service. I have a couple of questions.
We bought the car in 2005 new. The last service was at 28,711 miles and it had; inspection service, oil change, plugs and filter changed. Do I take it that this service (currently at 38,750 miles) is only an oil change?
The mileage screen shows a spanner with 4200 on it, then when the engine is started it changes to 18 before going to the mileage. What are these numbers?
Also, how do I reset the service indicator?
At what mileage is the Cambelt due?
Does the fuel filter ever need changing?

Thanks in advance,
Chris

THe 4200 is number of miles until the next service is due, and i presume that the 18 may be days till due?

Excellent, thanks for your help.

So the cam belt is 60,000 or 4 years, whichever is soonest?

There's a strange squeak when ever you release the accelerator pedal. It's gradually getting worse. If you rock the front drivers side wheel it makes the same noise with a lot of back and forth wheel movement. So I imagine there is a bush that needs replacing too!

Yes, although many people (myself included) would change it before 60k, maybe 45-55k depending on how much you love your car :D

Id rarther pay £300 ish for a new cambelt than god knows how much for a new engine if it goes whilst out and about!

Ok, I'm going to do the cambelt when I get the time.
Although the kit is £140 from VW!

The milage is currently 38,500 but today I noticed the sticker on the door says the next service is at 49,000 or 10/12/10 so I don't know why the service light has come on?
