Best place to buy paint?

Post by Karson3270 »

Looking to buy some decent paint in a rattle can. Looking to paint the splitter and skirts when I get them.

The thing is, I don't know where wil supply me the best paint, for example, a colour which matches perfectly and the paint isn't too thin.

I've tried halfords paint and it was total crap :( It was runny and at the same time the nozzle was useless and wasn't like normal spray cans.

I've heard that the VW dealers sell them, but at a very high price, but then again I heard that local paint shops could mix the paint for me and sell it to me in a spray can?

I'm looking for the colours LC9Z/Z4 which will be the black I want to spray the mirror bases and LA7W which will be Reflex silver I would use to colour code the splitter and skirts.

Also a final question, would I need to primer before I spray them, and would I need to us a clear coat of lacquer after painting? I'm new to painting

Thanks guys

What sort of finish do you get out of a spray can? Is it worth paying to get it done professionally or is the difference barely noticeable?
I need to do a bit of paintwork on my car as well, but its black and has a slight metallic flake in it, and I want it to blend as closely as possible.

Sorry for the thread hijack mate, but maybe this will help you out as well :)

Holy... :shock: It's almost identical! I think Yorks has swayed me to buy from factory though. I think I will give VW a ring this morning and see what they have to say about it all. Thanks for your input guys.

@Blaze

The finish will be the same, so long as you apply even coats without applying too much on one patch which may cause it to be uneven and maybe drip! If this happens then you may need to sand it down and respray it.

Hmmm, that is a pretty good finish, think I'll have to give this a go myself! Only doing a couple of small bits anyway...
