Is my climatronic broken?

Post by chris meardon »

So I have 9n3 GTI with climate control climatronic,

When i Stick it to low and with econ on its still not cold!!! Is this actually air conditioning? I had the same problem in the 6n2 with climatronic and assumed the new one would be different. I cant get freezing cold air out!

Any advise

Thanks

No noticable difference between the 2 to be honest.

Its the gas in the air con. Thought they stopped using freon though? Something about kids getting high off it? May be wrong though...
You can get it tested for leaks at the same time as it's refilled. Think Kwik-Fit do it IIRC.

Steady there, no one is allowed to use Freon nowadays - mind you it used to be very useful for cleaning components etc, but it also got a bad name for causing depletion of the ozone layer in the upper atmosphere. The cruel thing is that the old "Freons" or CFCs are more energy efficent that the HFC etc replacements. All cars from about 1988 onwards get loaded with R134 which is not as "bad" a fridge gas as R12.

Montreal Protocol and F Gas regs have tightened up what is used and how its use is controlled.

But as said, econ = compressor running on bypass with econ off the compressor should start working on the R134 and moving it in a compressed state around the system, maybe just needs a top-up as these systems loss 10grams through the plastic/rubber piping per year - plus more from any actual leaks.

hmmmm... this is odd. in romania all the auto dealers top up the aircon with freon. maybe they just use the term freon but in stead its something else.
