Coilovers VS Suspension kit
Coilovers VS Suspension kit
Im sure this has been debated a lot but im still unsure
I had the Hottuning coilovers last year and the ride was very harsh. but i like the function of adjusting to your preference.. But apart from that im worried about coilovers seizing. Does anyone know any tips and advice for coilover maintenance.
ive seen these ones as well
http://www.venommotorsport.com/manufact ... o%20Mk%205
Though they havent been reviewed by anyone yet
as for lowering kits i was thinking a 60 drop at the front and 40 at the back.. Does anyone have any pics as to how that looks on a polo with 14's or 15's
Thanks in advance guys!

Re: Coilovers VS Suspension kit
good idea might be to copper grease the threads asap after its fitted, iv heard you can wrap the unit in cling film too
(not sure about that one, might give it a go though)
i would think suspension kits (springs and shocks) would be better in terms of handling, unless your gona spend big money on coilies, but the general appeal of coilies is like you said the adjustable factor probably better for looks (i could be wrong)
i got some JOM coilies on mine n find them fairly soft, a bit on the bouncy side but not harsh at all, but i remember you saying about your back, so its up to you what your looking for
60mm is not that much of a drop on the 6n2 though...

Re: Coilovers VS Suspension kit
Yeh your welcome to if your down here any time. if your not after a huge drop i have some brand new Eibach sportline springs. 50mm front 30 on the back, not a huge drop but it levels the car out
whatever you do, make sure you drop it soon, it looked sick on them Lenso's

Re: Coilovers VS Suspension kit
I know dude! but my next idea is gonna be something different.. Im kind of bored of bbs looks now. Sounds tempting, but im gonna take my time to make a decision. I dont wanna get shocks then get the camber done and then change my mind, get coilovers and do the camber again lollRS_GT wrote:Yeh your welcome to if your down here any time. if your not after a huge drop i have some brand new Eibach sportline springs. 50mm front 30 on the back, not a huge drop but it levels the car out

Im not around south london. Mostly around east and west
Re: Coilovers VS Suspension kit
Few of my boys from uni are in east, so might be around this summer, i havent actually taken mine to any shows, but now because its almost 'ready' think i might have to
couple of my mates have some nice dubbed golfs (mkv and a mk3 VR6), so might go with them, dno how il keep up though lol
yeh thats an expense a lot of people forget about, i still need to get my camber and tracking done! had to take the rear colies off because they were faulty, but once i get the new ones, thats another £80 or so straightening it all out

Re: Coilovers VS Suspension kit
the expensive on has adjustable damping, you can adjust how firm you want it. but i don't see there being a huge variation. might be wrong, maybe someone with adjustable damping coilies can shed some light
Re: Coilovers VS Suspension kit
I was in the same boat as yourself.
In the end i opted for coilovers because i couldn't find anyone with setup i wanted so couldn't see it looked the way i wanted it too.I bought coilovers so i could get the heigth exactly how i wanted it.When i fitted mine i painted the thread on the strut in copper grease, also on the weitec and KW models rather than having two steel or aluminium locking nuts then can seize or bond to the strut they have a tough nylon collar which has no chance of bonding the the threaded strut. If i were you i would really consider Weitec Hicon GT's they have been great for me and still relatively comfortable.

Re: Coilovers VS Suspension kit
Thanks brad. That's helped. Where did you get yours from??
How low do the weitec hicon gt coilovers go? In venom website it says 70 and then it's says 90 as well.

Re: Coilovers VS Suspension kit
I bought mine from Venom motorsport,it does say that but mines 40mm lower than standard GTI height and has an awful lot left.If im honest i think companies like weitec/KW make coilovers for performance and handling not for the scene and seeing who can go lowest. They're good quality and unless you want to go really low they're worth considering.I think they would go about 90-100mm realisticaly.
Re: Coilovers VS Suspension kit
Nice one brad!!
I've done my research and have made my decision to get the weitec hicon gt coiloers!!
