1.4 16v (75hp) cutting out

Post by mk4gtiturbo »

The Mrs tells me that it has now happened twice. First time at low speed but then it happened today while she was travelling at 70mph on a motorway. She looked down and the revs went to zero then it carried on as normal. I'd like to fix this before it stops and doesn't start again.

Any ideas? I'm thinking one of the engine sensors.

I had a similar problem with my enginge too. Same engine size and was a 16v. Fortunatley it only seemed to happen when I wasn't driving fast but on a couple of occasions i would be going around roundabouts and my enginge would just cut out. It was obviously worrying and had to get sorted. A guy I knew who does alot for my Dad's motor had a look and removed some codes in the enginge. 1. which was making the car randomly cut out and 2. the car not always starting first time. Ever since hes done the work my Polo has been fine.

So maybe try going to VW or look in local paper for some car diagnostic people. IMO i wouldnt go to VW they'll probualy charge you a bomb!

Sounds like the engine speed sensor (g28) is playing up. It seems to be happening to alot of people lately!

i jus cleaned out my throttle body.... that seemed to do the trick... i aslo changed my spark plugs while i was at it lol!
bt yehh it starts first time everytime now.... have a look at that first as it is fairly simple to do and only costs an aerosol or carb spray! if not then try the speed sensor as said above...
hope that helps
