Cleaned throttle body, is something missing?
I cleaned the throttle body on the Polo over the weekend and found a hose connected at the back. This hose had been cut and a bolt shoved in with a jubilee clip holding it on. What is this hose for and does it matter that it has been "modified"?
Re: Cleaned throttle body, is something missing?
that the vaccum hose for the egr valve, that hose will go to the brake servo, i assume that has one shoved in too, take some pictures of your bay mate

Will try but it's hidden under the airbox. Why would it be removed? Are there issues with it?
Re: Cleaned throttle body, is something missing?
its just an emmisions thing, aload of crap really, does naff all. mines currently disconected but via the plug so it cannot comunicate with the ecu. car is slightly quicker and more responsive with it disconnected, plus its not filling your intake fanimold up with sludge and crap
Re: Cleaned throttle body, is something missing?
may I ask what engines do you have? cos I am quite sure I dont have an EGR on my 1.0mpi
Re: Cleaned throttle body, is something missing?
yeh you wont have because yours doesnt produce enough emmisions to warrent one
mines a 1.4 16v 6n2

Re: Cleaned throttle body, is something missing?
I've got the 1.4 16v (75bhp), I've been having trouble with what appears to be my TB giving me a check light, I cleaned top half and it went for ages, came back so did the whole thing, and now it won't go away, I realised that at the back of mine it's blanked off but it went through an MOT the other day fine, so emissions are good. Could it be something to do with it? Sorry if I seem to be hijacking the thread just wondered if it was something similar?
Re: Cleaned throttle body, is something missing?
why not give it a run with vag com mate to see what error codes pop up? could be a dozen things that are causing problems with power and throttleloudervision wrote:I've got the 1.4 16v (75bhp), I've been having trouble with what appears to be my TB giving me a check light, I cleaned top half and it went for ages, came back so did the whole thing, and now it won't go away, I realised that at the back of mine it's blanked off but it went through an MOT the other day fine, so emissions are good. Re: Cleaned throttle body, is something missing?
Ah yeah, sorry I forgot to mention that I did that and it came up with a faulty MAP sensor, had it replaced and still a faulty MAP sensor
just concluded that after the TB cleaning first time around with no errors for a while that must be the culprit
it doesn't seem to affect the car at all though, it's just become a new addition really now haha. I did however take the TB plug off and then turn the key to the stage before ticking over and the light doesn't come on for about a minute, and then when I plug it back in BAM it's back, but the TB just seems to whine rather than do this little "dance" I've heard of... Dodgy butterfly maybe? Tried oiling it to no avail as well. Out of curiosity, would a GTi throttle body fit, just for means of testing?
Re: Cleaned throttle body, is something missing?
so maybe than try and give it a TBA (throttle body alignment) maybe it is a little out of synch or something not sure thoughloudervision wrote:Ah yeah, sorry I forgot to mention that I did that and it came up with a faulty MAP sensor, had it replaced and still a faulty MAP sensorjust concluded that after the TB cleaning first time around with no errors for a while that must be the culprit

A GTI throttle body will only fit a GTI and the 1.4 16V 100BHP engine with some work.
The MAP sensor fault is often related to the brake servo pipe - they have a habit of cracking on these, so take off your airbox and have a look at the plastic pipe going into the circular item thats inline with the steering wheel. If that breaks, manifold pressure drops, and the error will flag.
