Couple of issues with 2002 Polo

Hi guys - this is my first post. Just bought a second hand Polo from local garage. Happy enough with the car, but there are a couple of things I need some advice with. 1st - the "emissions" warning light shows fixed amber. This was fixed by the garage but came back a few days later. 2nd - Car idles at very low revs and vibrates while stationary. Car's booked in for next week to get these checked out - but can anyone give me an idea what the problem could be - cheers.

One final thing, I know the Polo is 3 cylinder, but it has quite a rasp to the engine when going up the gears - is this a trademark?
