Post by matt_123 »

Probably been covered before but ive just ordered a new rear vw badge to spray black and wondered if you have to sand of the chrome or just primer it then spray it ??

Definately sand it first mate. Get rid of all the chrome or ull find the paint you apply will flake off very quickly. Use a textured black paint it will still well and give you a nice matt effect. Looks very good!

Sand first. The badge comes appart with some drilling out the connection points on the back. Not too hard...

I think it leaves holes on the rear mate, you'd have to get it smoothed over and painted

for V-Man,

the badge is held on by what looks like black silicone glue, so just carefully get a towel over flat screw-driver and raise it out.

but as NMavs says it will leave am indent from the backing :?

Cheers guys !
and yes removing your rear badge does leave an indent you would need it smoothed at a bodyshop or such. but you can remove the badge using a hair dryer or heat gun so that the glue heats up and all you do is peel that way you can restick it using the same glue on the back already.

Yeah, a little heat and some floss / fishing line go a long way to removing the rear badge. Better to colourcode than remove IMO, much easier.
